Leopoldo Leal holds a PhD in Design from FAU-USP, with specializations in Type Design from Type West (Letterform Archive), the Plantin Institute of Typography (Plantin-Moretus Museum), and in Communication and Arts from Senac.
He teaches Type Design and Visual Identity in the undergraduate Design program at ESPM-SP and is the founder of the Type Foundry Pandemonium Type, which develops custom typefaces for clients such as Guaraná Antarctica, Matte Leão, Bauducco, among others. With over 20 years of experience, he has worked at Pharus Design, Landor, Interbrand, Futurebrand, and GAD Branding. His work has received awards from the iF Design Award, Red Dot, Gute Gestaltung Award, and Type Directors Club.
His book Processo de Criação em Design Gráfico: Pandemonium, based on his doctoral thesis, won first place at the Museu da Casa Brasileira Design Award, and was also awarded by the Type Directors Club, Brasil Design Award 2020, and LAD Awards 2021. It was a finalist for the Jabuti Prize 2021 and selected for the 13th ADG Biennial.
